For inquiries about this item, please scroll to the bottom the page: “enquire about this item”.
This exceptional French Louis XV ormolu clock garniture set, dating to circa 1860, represents the height of 19th-century French decorative arts. Crafted during the Rococo Revival period, the set consists of a central mantel clock and a matching pair of five-arm candelabras, all executed in finely cast fire-gilded bronze (ormolu) and retaining their original antique finish.
Antique French Louis XV Clock Set – Circa 1860
The clock is richly adorned with elaborate Louis XV rocaille scrolls, floral motifs, and asymmetrical curves, showcasing the refined artistry associated with high-end French bronze workshops of the period. At the summit of the clock are two finely sculpted putti:
a reclining male figure and a female figure offering fruit and grapes, symbolizing abundance, harmony, and prosperity. These sculptural details elevate the set beyond a functional timepiece into a true work of decorative art.
The clock face features a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, beautifully framed by gilt bronze ornamentation. Inside, the clock houses a French 8-day mechanical movement that has been professionally cleaned, checked, and oiled. The movement is in working order and strikes on both the half hour and the full hour. The clock is offered complete with pendulum, winding key, and bell, making it ready for immediate use.
Matching Ormolu Candelabras
Flanking the clock is a perfectly matched pair of five-arm ormolu candelabras, each richly decorated with scrolling foliage, classical detailing, and a sculptural putto figure. The balanced proportions and intricate casting create a visually impressive and harmonious garniture set, ideal for display on a mantel, console, or grand interior setting.
