This is a beautiful antique French table/mantle clock pendulum. It was made from gilded bronze, in about 1830. It has a white enamel dial plate with roman numerals and works and chimes perfectly. Everything was checked and cleaned by professional clock makers. It still has its original authentic gilded bronze work, it has only been cleaned. It is 24 carat gold, fire gilded bronze and looks like a jewel. The clock has an 8-day spring-driven movement with anchor escapement and silk suspended pendulum. It strikes the half hours and full hours on a bell with count wheel striking.

This clock is uniquely beautiful in that it combines true creative artistry with conventional, classical, figurine aesthetics. It has a multi-layered base, decorated with typically French ornaments and relief figurines. On these bases is where the actual hour work and dial are, on top of which two beautifully decorated figurines of  two persons are to be found, playing in what seems to be a site of nature on a chique bench, a marquise.  This clock is of a very heavy quality and it is very richly decorated. These types of clocks would normally only be seen in French castles of the 19th century.  The hair and clothing of the figurine as well as the magnificent details in the reliefs really show the creator’s mastery of their craft. The two large figurines are characterized by their very lively manners, they really bring the whole clock to life.

The movement was signed by the maker Medaille d'Or Pons, 1827. The movement was made by Honoré Pons-de-Paul, born in 1773 in Grenoble, France.

The measurements are about:

  • 54 cm high - 21 inch high.

  • 40 cm wide - 16 inch wide.

  • 17 cm deep - 7 inch deep.
