Early 1900s French Louis XVI Gilt Beech Velvet Sofa
An elegant early 1900s French Louis XVI sofa, beautifully proportioned and rich in authentic antique character. Crafted by French artisans from solid beechwood, the sofa features the graceful corbeille, or basket-form, silhouette associated with refined French salon furniture.
Its gently curved back, flowing arms and finely carved details create a sophisticated neoclassical appearance, while the combination of antique gold, tan and deep coffee-brown upholstery gives the piece warmth and depth.
Original Gilt Beechwood Frame
The solid beechwood frame retains its original antique-gold gilded finish.
It has been carefully cleaned while preserving the naturally aged patina, subtle surface variations and signs of wear that have developed over more than a century. These characteristics emphasize the detailed carving and contribute to the sofa's authentic antique appearance.
Velvet & Damask Upholstery
The seat and inner back are upholstered in warm tan velvet, beautifully contrasted by deep coffee-brown tufted velvet along the arms and side sections.
The outer back is finished in an ornate silk-cotton floral damask, making the sofa attractive from every angle. This decorative back allows the piece to be positioned freely within a room rather than exclusively against a wall.
