An exceptional French Louis XVI–style centre table dating from the 1960s, combining richly gilded bronze, polished black wood and an elaborate arrangement of decorative porcelain portrait medallions.
Artisan-crafted in France, this striking table draws inspiration from the grandeur of French royal interiors and the refined symmetry of 18th-century neoclassical design. Its generous circular form and sculptural pedestal base create an impressive statement from every angle.
The tabletop is richly decorated with gilt-bronze scrollwork, floral motifs, ribbon-and-bow details and classical ornamentation. Set within the composition are sixteen porcelain portrait medallions depicting elegantly dressed French women in period costume, each rendered with delicate colors and fine decorative detail.
At the centre is a larger porcelain portrait of King Louis XIV, based on the celebrated royal portrait by French court painter Hyacinthe Rigaud. The central medallion is framed by a deep cobalt-blue border, gold decoration and a contrasting black surround, creating a strong visual focal point.
The pedestal base is equally decorative, with a polished black central column surrounded by sculptural gilt-bronze supports, scrolling motifs, garlands and classical ornament. Additional gold medallions and pierced decorative borders complete the elaborate black-and-gold composition.
