Founded in 1896 by Coen Kurz, with prior expertise from the Tielse company Daalderop, the company began as C. Kurz & Co., Holland, specializing in metalworking. Following a factory fire in 1899, a new factory equipped with a steam engine was established. In 1906, a second factory in Kleef focused on gas and petroleum lamp production.
