“Exquisite 19th Century French Empire Bronze Doré Ormolu Gilt Bronze Mantle Clock - 'L'Inquiétude Maternelle'"

This captivating French Empire bronze Doré ormolu gilt bronze mantle clock, crafted around 1810 in France, bears the evocative name 'L'Inquiétude Maternelle,' translating to 'The Worried Kindergarten' in English. This remarkable timepiece is a testament to the exceptional artistry of its era.

The clock's tableau features a newborn baby lying on a sheet within a cradle, attended by a detailed woman kneeling beside him, gently covering him with the sheet. The meticulous craftsmanship extends to both figures, creating a beautiful and emotionally resonant scene. Standing steadfast on four legs, the clock case is guarded by majestic lions with wings on both sides, each adorned with a laurel wreath. Adjacent to the lions, elegant vases contribute to the overall opulence of the design.

Two cherubic putti grace the scene, standing on a branch adorned with flowers and a torch. The clock's overall decoration reflects the distinctive Napoleon style, showcasing vases, laurel branches, wreaths, and exquisite workmanship. Notably, this clock is documented in Pierre Kjelberg's authoritative work, "La Pendule Française," on page 390 B.

Maintaining its original gold from the 19th century, the clock has undergone a careful cleaning process while preserving its authenticity. The enamel dial, featuring Roman numerals, is signed "F. Couturier A Paris." The movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled by a skilled clockmaker, ensuring flawless functionality. This timepiece operates with an eight-day wire suspension pendulum and strikes every whole and half hour.
